Three Methods of Eliminating Credit Card Debt
If you find yourself falling deeper and deeper into debt, there is no better time than now to find a good and effective way to eliminate your financial obligations and find your way back to financial freedom. You need to find a way to get rid of your debts as fast as possible and then start rebuilding your credit.
A very large percentage of the population has been struck with credit card debt, especially with this declining economy. Credit card debt can be very stressful because not only do you owe more money than you have, you get the additional burden of having the credit card companies call you daily demanding their money.
There will come a time when you have had enough of the calls and the worry. You will need then to make a choice from your available options you have to eliminate your debt and find your way back to freedom.
One method of eliminating your debt is to contact one of the debt relief agencies that work with your creditors to reduce your interest rates. They will contact each of your creditors and work out an agreement with them that will allow you to pay the loan off at an agreed-upon lower rate. The agency will consolidate your debts so that you make one monthly payment to the agency, not the creditors. The agency will then distribute your money to each individual creditor. These agencies will charge you fees for these services and they can be high. In fact, you may make several monthly payments that will be going to pay the fees instead of the creditors. The creditor calls will continue for quite some time because they are not seeing any money and you will be no better off than you were before. In addition, even if the creditors agree to lower their interest rates, you will still be paying pretty much the same monthly amount to them. For people who could not afford the payments in the first place, this is not always feasible.
Another method of reducing your debt is to take out a consolidation loan. You will usually have to use your home to back up the loan, which can cause some problems if you aren't careful. The once unsecured credit card loan has now become a secured loan. If you find yourself unable to make the payments, you can lose your home, causing you more problems than you had before. Even though the credit cards will be paid off, you still owe the amount in the form of another loan. Because you still have your cards, you may be tempted to use them again. Running up that credit card debt again will get you in serious trouble this time.
A third method of eliminating your credit card debt is by negotiating a settlement with your creditors. This may be your best option because, once you get the creditor to agree to a settlement, then you will get the agreement in writing and make payments that are already agreed upon in the settlement. People who negotiate settlements with their creditors can end up paying anywhere from 30 to 60 percent of the total amount they owe the company. This can save you a great amount of money in the long run.
No matter which method you choose to eliminate your debt, your best time to do this is right now. The sooner you act, the sooner you will get your debt under control and start having a better and less stressful life. Once you get the debt paid, you can start rebuilding your credit.
